Monta Vista Girls Who Code

Mission

Monta Vista Girls Who Code aims to create a community and foster diversity, equity, and inclusion through bimonthly member meetings where we teach the fundamental concepts of various languages such as Python and Java.

What we do at MV Girls Who Code

Members can participate in

- an interactive presentation
- activities where members can apply and strengthen the knowledge they just learned.

First Semester

Second Semester

We have lesson plans ranging from the basic coding concepts for beginners to more advanced concepts where members can test their knowledge.
We introduce projects where members can either create or join a team of members to code their own project that solves a social issue and betters the community.
Members will have meeting time to work on this project and will be able to receive guidance and aid through mentors, guest speakers, and successful women in the STEM field.
At the end of the semester, members will have the opportunity to present their developed project at a Projects Showcase with other Bay Area Girls Who Code chapters in front of a panel of professionals.

Why should you join MV Girls Who Code?

- Learn how to code in a fun and safe environment

- Collaborate with others who are also interested in coding and have similar interests

- Meet new people have tons of fun!

Did you know?

Only about a quarter of workers in the coding and computing field are women. In fact, it has steadily decreased since 1995 (Girls Who Code).

Male STEM workers’ average annual salary - $85,000 - is almost $15,000 higher than that of female STEM workers - $60,828 (American Association of University Women).

About 50% of the women in STEM who were surveyed say that their gender has hindered their success in the workplace (Pew Research Center).

Roughly 74% of women working in computer jobs who were surveyed say that they have experienced discrimination based on their gender (Pew Research Center).

As a club branch of the Girls Who Code organization, we strive to empower young women who are looking to explore a career in programming and STEM.

Let’s close this gender gap together as sisters.
